  • sunflower and peanut oil,
  • eggs (chicken, quail),
  • mushrooms,

  • fruits and fruit juices without red tints: yellow apples, bananas, citrus fruits, peaches, green grapes;,
  • Drinks include herbal (but not green!) and black tea, coffee.

Of course, 100 g of grapes or 1 peach will not upset the INR balance. But 2 kg of grapes or red apples washed down with several cups of hibiscus is easy. It's all about the quantity and limits of what is acceptable.

When even a little greenery is too much

Foods high in vitamin K are always taboo if you are taking warfarin. Therefore, read and remember.

IN list of products that should be limited, includes any greens in the form of herbs, spices, vegetables and their mixtures, oils and tea, namely:

  • asparagus, peas, pumpkin, cucumber (especially with peel), beans, tomatoes,
  • beet greens, turnip greens, shallots, celery, spinach, rhubarb, parsley,
  • cabbage (Brussels sprouts, broccoli, white, sour),
  • vegetable mixtures,
  • plums (regardless of color and size),
  • margarine, mayonnaise,
  • olive oil,
  • green tea.

Remember: we adjust the dose of warfarin to your diet, and not vice versa.

If you have a small amount of vitamin K in your diet and your INR is between 2.0 and 3.0, keep going.

If you decide to once again treat yourself to the joys of vitamins, it is better to donate blood unscheduled, and let the attending physician evaluate how liquid it is. The main thing is consistency of taste preferences and the absence of excesses (such as vegetarianism or a sudden love for greens).

Is it possible to raise a glass on holidays?

A bottle of beer on the weekend or a glass of wine on holidays certainly lifts your spirits. However, what about warfarin? It’s definitely not worth becoming an absolute teetotaler and an ulcer.

In terms of 1 dose of alcohol per day – 1 bottle of beer or 1 glass of wine or 1 cocktail or 1 glass of spirits. However, I don’t presume to say that taking an intoxicating potion every day is so safe.

It would be more logical to stop at 1 glass of expensive white (once again, not red!) wine for the holidays.

Going beyond the measured daily dose is fraught with a sudden increase in INR and life-threatening bleeding.

  • garlic;
  • papaya;
  • The alkaloid Quinine, present in various drinks as a tonic and having a bitter taste, can cause bleeding. People undergoing treatment should carefully read the composition of the drink before drinking it. The most famous are Schweppes Bitter Lemon, Schweppes Indian Tonic Water, Jumbo Gin and Tonic, Evervess;
  • cranberries and cranberry juice. Products containing even small amounts of cranberries should also be avoided;
  • herbal preparations that can be included in various dietary supplements, such as ginkgo biloba, angelica, and sage.
